This was a fun project where I got to visual my connections on Linkedin. You may not know this, but Linkedin stores all your profile data and makes it available to you to download. I downloaded the data, which is contained in a .csv file, and imported it into Tableau. From there I just had to explore what was most interesting create the dashboard!
In the company breakdown treemap, the results were as I would've expected - I had the most connections with the two companies I have worked full-time at (Molex and Yazaki), followed by Eaton in which a few former colleagues had moved to. The position breakdown is not what I expected to see! I had assumed the title I'm connected with the most is Engineer but that was not the case (although I believe this is because there are a variety of titles that an engineer might have i.e. design engineer, mechanical engineer, product engineer, etc.). Maybe the greatest takeaway from visualizing this data is the connections over time. There is definitely a spike in my connection count, and Linkedin activity in general, whenever I have been actively looking for new roles in the past. There's also a significant spike in the number of connections in 2022, which is when I committed myself to becoming more active in the data science community and building my personal network.
Be on the lookout for future revisions of the project. I am very interested to see how this changes over time, especially because I have become even more active in the data sceince community and have made a lot of connections recently!
